You're on a Roll! {First Day Welcome Gifts} - SproutClassrooms.com

I am not one to shower my students with prizes and gifts, especially edible ones. But when getting my little Henry ready to start preschool next week, I was putting away new lunch snacks and noticed a huge amount of fruit roll-ups in his snack drawer. I had purchased a giant box of these roll-ups at Costco, and Henry is lukewarm about them. I actually really dislike them because they get his hands incredibly sticky. The entire lot of them went into a zip lock bag to make room for less sticky snacks.

I was about to offer the bag of roll-ups to a local friend on Facebook when it hit me-I could use them for the classroom!

And with that, an idea was born. Seeing as they are made from all natural fruit puree, I feel ok about handing them out to the kiddos at the end of our first day. It will make up for the totally artificial Pop Rocks I sent them in their Welcome Packet, right? 🙂

I have 23 kiddos right now (heaven, I know!), so I simply printed out a few sheets of this tag I designed, punched a hole in them and tied them to the roll-ups. Ta-da! Instant end of the day gift, and I no longer have to feel guilty about this mistake of a purchase.

  5. Katie,
I don’t like giving candy. I give a lot of granola bars or fruit snacks. I haven’t thought about fruit roll ups! Great idea:)
