While I’m pretty handy with most crafting skills, knitting is one area that has evaded me. So when I got it in my head to create a Mrs. Weasley Christmas Sweater from the Harry Potter books, I had to figure out a different way of going about it.

I found sweaters for my co-teacher and I at H&M and gold yarn at Micheals. I borrowed an embroidery hoop from mother-in-law and got started.

First, I cut a letter stencil out on my Silhouette Cameo. If you don’t have a Silhouette, you could print one out and cut it out with an exacto knife. Either way, use a Times New Roman font and make it as large as an 8.5 x 11″ sheet of paper.

I then traced the letter with a black sharpie-this will be covered by yarn when you embroider the letter.

Once the letter is traced, I put the sweater in the embroidery hoop and began to just embroider ‘loops’. I am NOT an embroidery expert-I literally when down and up, down and up in a large loop style. This felt like it took forever, but I think if I had just sat down and done it in one go while indulging in a Netflix marathon, it would have sped by.

Once I was done with the letter, I added a patch to the sleeve so that people would know it was a Harry Potter sweater and not me just wearing a giant goofy letter on my front. It gives a little bit of weight to the project. 😉

And ta-da! A Mrs. Weasley Christmas Sweater with zero knitting involved. Here is my beautiful co-worker modeling hers. We both share the same first name, so it will be pretty fun to wear these together during the holiday season!
