Summer Classroom Deals at the Dollar Tree

A quick stop at the Dollar Tree today proved to be extremely fruitful!
As part of my get-things-done-summer, I’m working on printing out and laminating task cards for all my math, ELA and science/social studies units. Look what the Dollar Tree had to store them in! These are the perfect size for task cards, measuring 7″ x 4.5″ each.
I had wanted solid colors, but all the colored ones had tribal prints on the flap, and that just isn’t my style. That’s when I dug deeper and found the black and white designs.
There were enough of the stripes for all my math chapters, and I’ll use the other two designs for ELA, holidays, science and social studies. The blue baskets are also from the Dollar Tree and fit the holders perfect!
Next up: water bottles. Every August, on the first day of school, my students walk in to a personalized water bottle on their desk. It’s my welcome gift for them, but it also preempts all the requests to use the water fountain.
Students in Room 10 are not allowed to leave the room for water-they are asked to fill their water bottle before school, at recess or at lunch. They can also use the sink in the back room to refill if they absolutely need to during an independent activity.
Every summer, I scramble to find enough bottles in the same style-uniformity prevents jealousy. 😉 Today, I found 30 in the same style! It pays to grab these at the beginning of the summer! I use my Silhouette Cameo to cut out names in vinyl, but you could also use a heavy-duty Sharpie to write names on the bottles.
So there ya go! Your summer classroom deals at the Dollar Tree. This week. I’m sure I’ll find more next week. It IS the season of shopping for our rooms, after all. 😉
